I'm a Political Economy major at Georgetown with a Math minor. In my free time I play the trombone and am active with College Republicans. If I had to describe my political views, I'd say I am a pragmatic conservative. Too often we are asked to choose between two extremes: the nanny state on one side, and the radical anarchism being pushed by the far right on the other. Government does (and should) play a beneficial role in society. The question is finding the proper balance between the duties of the citizen and the duties of the state.

A New “Gospel of Wealth” in an Economic Crisis October 31, 2012 Being successful is not a bad thing, despite what Occupy Wall Street might have you believe. It’s something that should be encouraged, something to strive for. comments (0)
Why Mitt Romney Is Right about Entitlement September 19, 2012 If Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan go out and tell the truth to the American people, while presenting a new path to prosperity, they can win, and we can avert the train wreck of unchecked government entitlement spending. comments (6)
9/12: We Are Americans First September 12, 2012 To do honor to the memory of 9/11 means to keep alive the spirit of 9/12, to recognize that we are Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, but Americans first, and in so doing find the strength to act to address the new challenges we face in 2012 and beyond. comments (0)
Liberty, Authority, and Why Libertarians Just Don’t Get It June 22, 2012 The challenge today is to separate true conservatism from the populist libertarianism that is increasingly gaining strength in this country—one understands what liberty really means, but the other just doesn’t seem to get it. comments (30)
Syria: The World’s Failure May 29, 2012 For the past few months, the government of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad has systematically slaughtered its own citizens, and yet the world does nothing. It’s all well and good to say “never again.” It’s another thing entirely to mean it. comments (0)
The Life of Julia: Obama’s Vision of a New America May 7, 2012 When the Obama campaign released “The Life of Julia,” an interactive slideshow following the effects of the President’s policies on a fictional woman named Julia, they showed us a glimpse of President Obama’s vision of the future — and it’s a terrifying vision, at that. comments (1)
Courage, Cop-outs, and Simpson-Bowles March 30, 2012 Blaming the rich banker or the Welfare Queen for our fiscal problems is easy. Deciding on a plan of real entitlement reform, smart cuts, and tax reform is hard. The only way to change the stagnant system in Washington is to change people's hearts back home. comments (0)
Syria: America’s Test March 8, 2012 The United States must immediately act to end the violence in Syria, despite continued inaction from the U.N.; to turn a blind eye to the Syrian peoples’ suffering would be a betrayal of our most deeply held values and convictions. comments (1)
